Certification Courses

Interested in becoming certified as a Lifeguard, or learning how to provide lifesaving care through CPR/AED certifications? At the YMCA, we strongly believe that acquiring the skills in order to provide care or to save a life are important life-long skills. Through our various certification courses, individuals will receive the most up-to-date training available for that certification course in a classroom setting, while also working on the applicable hands-on skills.

At the YMCA, we offer the following certifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguard
American Red Cross CPR/First Aid

All of our certification courses have a blended-learning component which requires additional work on a computer in order to receive certification. This work will be emailed to class participants at least one week prior to the in-person session. Online class work is expected to be completed before the date of the in-person class.

American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Classes

Interested in becoming CPR/First Aid certified or required by your employer? Register now for one of our Community CPR/First Aid/AED classes.

Participants must be present for the entire class and finish all online work prior to the in-person session to complete certification.

Classes will be held at the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. Classes have limited availability so register now!

American Red Cross Lifeguard Classes

All American Red Cross Lifeguard courses will be taught as blended learning/hybrid classes. Participants will be required to complete an online portion, pass a swimming pretest, complete all classroom and water skills sessions, and pass written exams to pass the course.

Pre-registration is required and the class must be paid in full before the start of the first class.
