Pickleball Fundraiser

A WEEKEND of PICKLEBALL FUN & TOURNAMENT PLAY!

Whether you’re a recreational player, a competitive player or interested in volunteering, we’d love to host you for a fun weekend of pickleball to raise money for the Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA A-Team! While the A-Team will have fun learning the basics, recreational players will participate in a SCRAMBLE event for prizes and competitive players will ‘literally’ go for the gold in our premier MONEYBALL ROUND ROBIN event. All fees include the Y day pass – so come early or stay later and enjoy all the Wilkes-Barre YMCA has to offer. Don’t want to play but want to support the A-Team? Who is the A-Team?

Thanks to a partnership with the AllOne Foundation, local YMCAs can now offer autistic youth & adults (along with their caregivers) a program meeting at the Y for a night of fun! The mission of the group is to create a culture of inclusion- and the social aspect of the program isn’t just for the participants! Our goal is to provide families with an engaging experience, connecting with one another and offering support, while creating memories that last a lifetime at the YMCA.

Each month the A-team runs a two hour party for individuals and their families to come swim, eat food and have lots of fun! A-Team events are held at the Greater Pittston YMCA and the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA locations of the Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA. A-TEAM Learn to Play Pickleball - Saturday, February 26th

This is a fun & free event designed to expose the A-Team to the sport of Pickleball. Please register below as a participant or as a volunteer. Volunteers are needed to fill in on courts and to help serve snacks/lunch.

10:00AM-Noon: A-Team Members and Volunteers: LEARN HOW TO PLAY PICKLEBALL

Noon-12:30: Lunch for A-Team (1st Floor Cafe), Volunteers & Scramble Players (2nd Floor Multipurpose Room)

SCRAMBLE - Saturday, February 26th

The Scramble is designed with recreational players in mind. Each player will receive a number. When your number is called, you’ll report to the court and play for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes of play, each player will report the score they earned during the match. All match points will be totaled and winners will be determined by the most number of points won. All Scramble matches will be played with the Onyx indoor ball. Cost to participate is $25 per player. There will be male and female winners. 

11:00AM-NOON: Scramble Player Check-In, Warm-Up & Lunch

NOON-12:30PM: PIZZA LUNCH (in the 2nd floor multipurpose room).

12:30PM: SCRAMBLE Play

 

'MONEYBALL' TOURNAMENT - Sunday, February 27th

The tournament is designed with competitive players in mind. Athletes will compete in Men’s Doubles, separated into 2 skill divisions 3.0/3.5 and 4.0/4.5 and/or Mixed Doubles OPEN. Format is round robin play with 8 teams max per event. Games to 11, win by 2. Winners determined by most number of matches won, followed by head to head and then point differential. All Moneyball matches will be played with the Onyx ball. Cost is $25 per player. And $5 for each additional event. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams. Players will register individually but should note the name of their partner during registration.

IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU REGISTER FOR 2 EVENTS, YOU WILL GET CHARGED $25 FOR EACH EVENT BUT YOU WILL BE REFUNDED $20 ONCE REGISTRATION CLOSES OR YOU CAN CHOOSE TO MAKE A $20 DONATION.
