Esports is a competitive sport through a video game requiring the use of strategy, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills to achieve individual or team success. And it’s bigger than ‘just gaming’. Esports allows teens to be engaged in a non-traditional sports program.
Esports will be available for youth ages 9 – 12 and 13-17. Youth will compete against other YMCA Participants in a supervised setting.
Games being offered:
Smash Brothers- is a crossover series of multiplayer fighting games in which many well-known Nintendo characters are pitted against each other to fight, with each character using their unique abilities in battle.
Rocket League- Rocket League is a fantastical sport-based video game, developed by Psyonix (it’s “soccer with cars”). It features a competitive game mode based on teamwork and outmaneuvering opponents. Players work with their team to advance the ball down the field, and score goals in their opponents’ net.
Nintendo Switch game console as well as the game will be available to play at the YMCA. You are also welcome to bring your own!
