Wellbeing Initiative

Wellbeing Initiative

The YMCA is known as a place where an individual can seek community, connection and physical wellness. Through the Wellbeing Initiative we seek to add to that legacy by also making the YMCA a place where individuals, families, and the community can go in order to cultivate and strengthen their emotional, mental, and social wellness.

We believe in the pursuit of health, happiness, recovery and a full, satisfying life in the community. We acknowledge that each individual’s path will be different, but by addressing every aspect of one’s wellness, we can help improve a person’s life. Since we believe that cultivating and strengthening an individual’s emotional and mental health and wellness is a critical component to one’s overall health and wellness.

All programming through to the Wellbeing Initiative is FREE to EVERYONE! (Non-members & Members)

The Wellbeing Initiative will offer the YMCA the community a myriad of opportunities to enhance and support their emotional and mental health and wellness. We will do this through a combination of educational and awareness programming, specialized instruction, social-emotional learning, workshops and seminars, community collaborations, as well as connection to community resources and services.

Mindful Over Money Workshop

Pittston
5/30/24 - 5/30/24
VIEW

Much like we have relationships with loved ones, co-workers, and our bodies, we also have a relationship with finances, and at times, it can be a complicated one. Within this workshop, Diane Webber, LPC, Financial Therapist, and Certified Financial Social Worker Counselor explores our relationships with finances and how they can often involve anxiety, fear, discomfort, and more. Also explored is the importance of one’s “financial stories”, such as where they come from, how they shape our spending, saving, borrowing, and lending of money as well as how they play a role in one’s overall mental and emotional well-being. Awareness of our financial stories allows us to discard what is no longer helpful and redefine our relationship with finances to improve our overall mental and emotional well-being.

This workshop will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 4:30-5:30PM at The Pittston Chamber of Commerce (104 Kennedy Boulevard, Pittston). It is free and open to the community!

Peaceful Mind, Peaceful Body, Peaceful World: Workshop

Wilkes-Barre
6/8/24 - 6/15/24
VIEW

Workshops will be held June 8th and June 15th from 10am-12pm at the Osterhout Free Library at 71 S Franklin St, Wilkes Barre, PA, 18701

Workshop Description:

“Peaceful Mind – Peaceful Body – Peaceful World”
The 5,000 year old tradition of Chinese Medicine has always acknowledged and incorporated the mental and emotional status of a person into their overall health and wellbeing. The Five Element System assigns emotions to the various organ systems of the body, e.g. excessive worry and obsessiveness can result in stomach problems (acknowledged by Western Medicine). In Chinese terms, holding on to these negative emotions and thoughts can cause distress in the Earth Element (Spleen/Stomach). Join Mark R Reinhart for this two hour exploration of the Five Element System (Personal Feng Shui) and learn the effect your thoughts can have on your health along with proactive steps you can take for self-regulation. Qigong exercises will be taught along with meditations. Class interactions are always encouraged.
Please contact Alexis Kulish, Wellbeing Initiative Program Coordinator, at 570-931-5764 or [email protected] for assistance registering.
